One of the lovely events we school parents organise is GLOBAL CUISINE. A cooking demonstration where someone, either in their own kitchen or in a borrowed kitchen, demonstrates a dish from home country.

Today, Victoria who is Chinese showed us how to prepare CHINESE HOT POT.

The fondue pot sits in the centre of the table and everyone dips in their little wire basket which you can fill with prawns, mussels, scollops, fish, tofu, finely sliced beef, many different kinds of Chinese green vegetable, exotic mushrooms. You dip the cooked item into a sauce you make according to taste, using soya, sesame paste, sesame oil, bbq sauce, rice vinegar, chilli sauce.

We learned so much and ate so much but this food doesn’t stuff you or make you feel bloated and heavy – a similar feeling with sushi. And of course it’s a very sociable way to eat as you see from the photos.
